New music emerging…

It’s been just over a year since the release of my last EP, Moments of Mercy, in December 2014. It was a quiet release; I didn’t do a crowdfunding campaign, I didn’t have a release show, and I didn’t make any CDs to try and sell. I’ve hardly touched my piano since tracking. I’ve never played the songs live; I’ve hardly wanted to. Performing is something I only occasionally yearn to do. But when I go for a prolonged period of time without playing the piano, without singing and writing and creating new music and then sharing it with you, that’s when I feel I’m not fulfilling my calling. This is a painful place to reach; but so far, it seems this pain is my most persuasive motivator. I have reached that pivotal place. And thus, it’s time to make new music!

I had a great experience making my last EP at Rarefied Recording in San Diego with studio owner and head engineer Roy Silverstein, so I’ll be returning to Rarefied to make this next EP. Roy will be producing with me as well as recording and mixing. I am thrilled and honored to work with him. We’ll be tracking on December 14th and 15th of this year, and the record will be released in early 2017. The sonic and conceptual ideas for the EP are forming quickly. I’m looking forward to working with studio musicians again and to have Roy – a talented music man with an objective perspective – to help create a musically and emotionally compelling record.

I’m also excited (and slightly terrified) to announce I am going to start sharing live performance videos. I’ll be sharing clips of covers and originals on Instagram and full-length videos of originals on YouTube. I want to share my musical heart and voice with you, and doing so online feels like the right balance of scary-challenging and comfortable-safe. My first full-length video will be up in early April.

Later this year I’ll be launching a crowdfunding campaign with rewards for everyone who preorders the new EP and contributes to the making of the record.
